Monday Night Debacle
October 12, 2004 on 1:47 pm | In Uncategorized |The Lions are slated to face the 1-4 Green Bay Packers this Sunday. This game may be more of a challenge than it already appears. The Packers were thoroughly embarassed in every of aspect of the game versus the Titans, Monday night.
The Packers defense has been horrible in defense of the run and the Lions must take advantage of this. As valuable as Artose Pinner was Sunday, he will be increasingly valuable this Sunday. Successfully running the ball will open up the passing game. Hopefully, with a the healthy return of Roy Williams the Lions will be able to get some of the big plays downfield that Tennessee benefited from against the Packers.
It is amazing to see the whole Lambeau Field, Brett Favre-mystique whither before our eyes. Favre’s performances have taken on a higher drama through the years on Monday Nights. He is charismatic and thoroughly tough. Many thought he would rise to the occasion last night much like he did last year after the death of his father. In recent years, we have started to see that Favre’s run is truly coming to an end. Hopefully, his career will not cast the same sort of faded glow that players like Johnny Unitas, Joe Namath, and Franco Harris suffered from. All myths are eventually de-bunked and rendered mortal and mundane by time.
That being said, Favre has all of the character and drive necessary to overcome these recent setbacks and pose a real threat to the Lions on their home turf. Traditionally, Favre has not performed well in domed stadiums and generally teams do not do well on a short week of preparation coming off a Monday night game. You can throw that all out the window this Sunday, this will be the biggest game the Packers have played in the long time if they will be able to salvage their season at all.

I have always been a pretty big fan of Favre. He has skill, attitude, and courage. He still has it in him to influence the outcome of a game, and I don’t think he’s quite done yet, but I hope he hangs it up before he becomes a shadow of himself. That being said, I think Shaun Rogers will make Favre look like Claude Lemieux did on March 26, 1997. I known that I am supposed to learn from history. History teaches us that the Lions will disapoint me. Not anymore. At the beginning of the season I was being realistic for the first time in my twenty five years as a Lions fan when I predicted the Lions would go 9-7. I am now predicting 11-5. On the other hand, I know that I shouldn’t get my hopes up where the Lions are concerned. Then again, everybody told me that the Wings wouldn’t win the Cup . . . The Packers are now playing a powerhouse in Detroit and will be dispatched in summary fashion. Detroit 28 Green Bay 10. Then again, every other time I have talked smack about the Lions . . .

Hondo (Yuke On) What the hell with the Hockey reference. Keep your ice golf comments out of my Football consciousness. GB better be thinking QB in next years draft. How about that Lions D-Line? Looking forward to Bly’s return v GB. Still sounds like no Kevin Jones, though. The Tundra sounded dead at times Mon night, although I was (not so?) surprised to hear quite a few boos from the Lambeau crowd. And those boos started very quickly (kind of like the Titan offense). The crowd seemed stunned into silence at Tennessee’s ability to score/GB’s defensive ineffectiveness and outraged at GB’s offensive struggles. My how fans can sour so quickly.

AS A LIFELONG LIONS FAN I SEE AGLIMMER OF LIGHT AT THE END OF THIS SEASONS TUNNEL,I FEEL THAT 10-6 IS POSSIBLE, 11-5 WOULD BE SWEET,BUT I THINKTHE GIANTS AND INDY COULD BE TOUGH,ANOTHER HOME GAME IN THE SCHEDULE WOULD BE NICE, IT IS JUST COOL TO SEE SOME LIFE IN THE TEAM AS BIG AS A IMPROVEMENT 9-7 WOULD BE I WANT TO HEAR THE LIONS ROAR AGAIN ,SEEING AS THE GREAT COMMERCIAL POWERS THAT BE HAVE SEEN FIT TO RUIN” RACIN” ON TV

I hope they beat Green Bay, it is always the most satisfying win of the year when they beat the Pack. I, too, secretly admire Favre, but think that he is pretty close to pulling a Willy Mays right now and this week if he loses to Detroit that will solidfy my opinion on that matter. However, if Williams is not in the lineup they will double up on Streets and the running game (aka the offensive line) will have to come through. Considering the Pack’s running defense has let two backs run for 150 yards at Lambeau (never happened before in one season)the Lions may prevail by the run. That would be sweet and that is my prediction 24-13 Lions with over 200 yards on the ground.
