Mooch Shoulders the Responsibility for the Lions Abysmal Performance
November 24, 2005 on 10:50 pm | In Uncategorized |The end is nigh, my friends. When your favorite team’s head coach accepts the responsibility for the massive failure of his team throughout the season and furthermore, after their blowout loss in a premier game on a national stage in front of the countless millions of fans nationwide and amongst all of his peers, in a lot of ways it appears that Steve Mariucci is attempting to force the hands of Matt Millen and the ownership to issue his dismissal by clearly delineating his faults and giving them a valid reason to do so.
Today’s game was a huge black eye for this organization and a major setback in their “rebuilding” of the team. If the penalties and turnovers weren’t enough, the Lions inability to score against the Falcon’s defense until the game was too far out of reach for the TD to matter and the embarassing shuffling of QB’s throughout the game are all clear signs that Mooch has no clue as to what will turn things around for this team. The Lions were unable to run against the poor Falcon’s rush defense. Their receiver’s are dropping more passes than they had earlier in the year and clearly their is no direction for improving upon all of these deficiencies.
I see no other recourse for the W. C. Fords, they need to admit that the direction the season has taken for this team is unacceptable and will no longer be abided. Furthermore, Matt Millen needs to be put on immediate notice that even with his recent contract extension, his next coaching hire will make or break his status within their organization. His legacy as team president has become a complete failure and their needs to be outside consultation brought in to assist in front office decision-making going forward. The Lions are teetering on the brink of mailing in the current season, I hope that the front office view is that this is totally unacceptable.
The biggest slap in the face for me is when the game got out of hand the broadcast crew ran out of commentary for the current game and proceeded to discuss other NFL team’s or topics to fill the time because the game is so one-sided and bereft of suspense. I also hate that when the game reaches that stage that the broadcast camera’s no longer take crowd shots to avoid showing how empty the stands have become. Hopefully, the Fords realize that nearly irreparable harm has been done to the future health of this team.
I am most disappointed by the fact that I was duped into believing that prior to this season that Lion’s may actually be competitive. HA! This team is clearly worse than last year’s version and will be lucky to win even one more game down the stretch. I have nearly reached the point that I am beginning to agree with the growing sentiment that the Lions should no longer be awarded the annual home Thanksgiving game, it is clear that they no longer relish the opportunity that they have been given with this game. Falcon’s Head Coach Jim Mora, Jr. was nice to the Lions and good buddy Steve Mariucci, too. If he hadn’t called in the dogs in the third quarter, the game could have been a blowout to rival last year’s to Indianapolis. How many more games until this season ends?

I have heard all of this sence Wayne Fonts left the team. I’m convinced that we will have to put up with this boring team until the Ford people look out of their Box and see the seats at Ford Field empty. As long as the money is rolling in, nothing will change. If you injoy watching loosers, stick with the Lions.

I second that sentiment. The saddest part is that we have one of the original NFL teams here and year after year we see that same stagnant team. Other cities have had expansion or second version teams move in and become competitors and nothing here changes. Its always the same clutchless team, year after year. Bummer. Now I have to hear it from all of my firends around the country who watched them get blown out.

Ya know i sit here year after year and watch the lions swearing the next year will be a better one and that is what a true and loyal fan does yes we get tired of the losing and the antics of one coach after another brings to the table but yet there are those of youi who fail to see that your disloyalty is unacceptable you got so much to say about them when they r losing what about when thay do win which at this point is almost never (I BET YOU THE DOG POUND IN CLEVELAND IS NOT THIS DISLOYAL) you people make me sick.PERIOD

Uh….David….little fired up, eh?
Me too! I’m fired up over this embarrasing season. I’m tried - tested - true Lions fan through and through. I don’t have the bumper stickers, sweatshirts, t-shirts, helmets with the blue and silver stripes….can’t afford that stuff. But I sure love me some Lions football. However, I can be fired up about some crappy football playing. In fact, we all can be. We can ride these guys backs all day long….but ain’t crap gonna happen until someone (read - Bill Ford) grows a pair and steps up to the media hand held tape recorders and says something along the lines of “Dear Detroit - It’s with great regret that I say this. We’ve had a most embarrasing season and $50 million from my elustrious bank account is now dedicated to building a stronger team - I’m dumping Mooch - I’m dumping Harrington - I’m demanding that Garcia retires and heads to the beach - I’m even making it clear to Mr. Millen that his days are numbered, too. Forgive me for running this organization the way I did this season and my committment is to this town - you fans - and this team.” Media response - “Sir, are you anticipating the playoffs for next season?” Response from above quotee - “Playoffs? Playoffs? I’m not talking about playoffs? I’m just trying to win a few more games!”
SleePac - out!

How many more heads will roll before the realization that a little better than average linebacker is not a GM? Millen can hire, fire, draft, make excuses, etc….. but he has the second worst record over the past 75 games next to Arizona and there is too much talent for that to be the case. They were not playing for Mooch but that is only part of the problem. Millen is lost and has no business being in the position he is in. As a former linebacker he obviously liked praying on weak offensive lines and that is apperant as that is what he has put together. You can only blame those around you for so long. Millen is a complete waste of time and money. By the way Millen, Fords, or whomever it matters too…I am a fan, but I buy no licensed merchendise, have never bought a ticket, and will not purchase from game day sponsors until you can prove you can put a descent product on the field. I refuse to contribute to your debacle in any way and until you make a descent product on the field I assume everyone who chooses to advertise with you wants to let everyone know they have a bad product as well.

OK, It’s high time the Fords look at the real problem, its the idiot they have running this thing, Millen, not Mooch. Good God people, he is a jarheaded moron, sorry Marines, no insult to ya, that needs to go, and then beg Mooch to come back. As far as our “interim” coach, worthless low life, any man would have said no and stood up to the idiot Millen and told him he is WRONG in this decision.
FORDS, GET RID OF YOUR PROBLEM, THE #$% KISSING MILLEN.

“** Mininum bid of $2,499 required for those wanting me to be a fan for the Browns, Ravens, Cardinals or Packers. Those are the teams the Lions managed to beat this year.”
