Perry’s Chicago Sports Blogs Mock Draft Pick
April 21, 2006 on 11:59 am | In Uncategorized |With the #9 Selection, the Lions draft Linebacker Chad Greenway . I intended on selecting Safety Michael Huff but he was already off of the board. I frantically attempted to trade down so that I didn’t have to make a reach pick, which in turn I obviously resorted to. Players like DE/LB Kamerion Wimbley, LB Manny Lawson, S/CB Jimmy Williams, OT Winston Justice, DT Haloti Ngata, and LB Ernie Sims were all worthy of consideration with this draft pick.
I didn’t select Wimbley because I believe he is more of a 3-4 Linebacker than a Defensive End. Same with Lawson. Williams and Justice both have character issues. Ngata is more suited to being a Nose Tackle. Sims would have been a more natural fit for the Tampa Cover-2 zone defense than Greenway. All of these players may have more upside than Greenway, but they are projects. I strongly believe that Greenway can contribute immediately (which the Lions desperately need!) and is a pure football player which hopefully would titillate Lion’s fans as well as Matt Millen. Please let me know what you think

I wanted to send a special shout out to the Lions faithful. Your GM did a great job in our first annual Blogger NFL Mock draft. He was working the phones like no other. Make sure you guys stop by for the post draft analysis and to watch it unfold - The Ravens are on the clock as we speak! Thanks again steve!

Well Done GM! You rock! Your pigskin talents will always amaze me! However, are the ‘character issues’ of Williams and Justice truly issues that couldn’t be overcome? I understand not wanting baggage that will hurt the overall focus of the team, but are we really at the point where a hard-nosed coach has absolutely no effect on these players? Also….’working the phones like no other’….didn’t know you had it in ya!
