I believe this draft of the Lions and to an extent the free agency period will define the Lions for the next 5 years. They (Mayhew/Lewand) have to hit homeruns with the first 2 picks - they dont have to pick hall of famers, just solid players that will be on the roster for the next 10 years. The roster is riddled with a ton of medium quality back up's that are in starting positions, they have to start a foundation now. In the next 3 picks they dont need home runs, but they do need to get a couple of doubles and maybe a triple. We cant draft for depth, we need starters right now, and right now I dont even know who there director of player personnel is. With this draft, they need to start from the inside out, draft the best OL w/ the number 1 pick, and pick 20 take the best available DL or G, first pick in the second rd should get you a top flight corner back or a big guard if you didnt pick one in the 1st, or LB. In the 3rd go after the cb/kick returner we have been missing for years, and the final 3rd pick look for another big lug for either side of the line. Take the 4th rd pick and see about getting Derrick Anderson fm the Browns. Rod was able to help Sapp become all he could be and Sapp is no easy man to handle. I just think Rogers is gonna be the same issue to the Browns that he was to the Lions. I look to see him have a very good first half and a "he's doggin' it" second half just like he did for the Lions. The one sliver lining we may have regarding Boden (and Travis Fischer for that matter) is that Schwartz isn't sipposed to be a "system" coach. If they can do something in the secondary that moves closer to "man" coverage, they will both do better and we may be more happy with his results. Let's face it, he(Boden) was never happy in the Tampa two and that's all Marinelli and Barry could coach.
