Thanks, nice mock. It could use some updating, though. Several of the players are not in the upcoming draft. I really like the Lions picks!

No agent or player would respond well to that scenario. It could happen, but do the Lions REALLY need to do anything that puts their class, integrity, and credibility into question, at all? No way.

I think the league addressed this in some way, although, I am not sure how. The first pick is not the problem, it is making sure the appropriate decision is made, and the factors behind that are sound, before moving forward. Jim Schwartz had more enlightening comments today about gambling at a $5000 table versus a $500, 000 table. I am developing some man love for the "Schwartz"!

Has there been any rules put in place that would stop the Lions from pulling a Mike Tice and purposefully dropping down the draft board a slot or two and letting people pick in front of us and also pay the higher pick bonus and salary?

Mike, immediately you are right. If we draft defense, like our board has played out so far, then we would HAVE to sign or trade for a run-stuffer. The draft itself is light on quality DT's, thus the rapid ascendance of BJ Raji.

I like Johnson, I admit he was overdrafted. In regards to Freeman and Smith, I think the Lions could do much worse, considering how weak their secondary is likely to be. Of note, OLB Aaron Curry has received some comparison to the Titans Keith Bulluck, (ding ding ding) which should resonate greatly with Jim Schwartz. I believe that their pass rush can only become more effective and aid their weak secondary, if they pair another quality edge rusher with Cliff Avril.

The Lions will be pressured to add a QB by the Ford's and Freeman appears to be an interesting project, who might thrive with Linehan. Culpepper would by some time for Freeman, too.

Ultimately, I agree, if you are likely going to be back in the top 10 picks next season, pass on the QB and attempt to solidify your team, before making the plunge.

I hope the draft doesn't actually go this way. I know you're concerned about your first pick, but as you say, he may pan out at he combine. Plus, I heard some good things about him on NFL radio. My big problem is the choice of QB in the #20 spot which could be that LB that we need or possibly an OT. If we get a run stuffer in Free Agency like Haynseworth or Woolfolk the DB will be much more effective.
