The other thing with Goltz is that he is (relatively speaking) a tabula rasa, which unfortunately for a player like Drew Stanton, gives the Lions some room for projection.

Stanton has probably deserved better than he has received with the Lions, maybe greener pastures await elsewhere still?

The Lions are still very likely to add another veteran backup to the competition, too. Maybe giving Stafford two people to compete with (rather than just one) for playing time can buy the Lions a little bit of developmental time and provide Stafford with even more impetus to become a quick study, so that he can deservedly get onto the field, rather than out of necessity.

It would be embarrassing, but it's not like there isn't presedence(sp), just maybe not on the same team. Lots of high #1's are a bust (Joey etc.) and several undrafted guys have won a starting job. I think its still a million to one shot that he would be better than stafford, but hopefuly if he were to be better, the schwartz will have the courage to play him. hitting dudes while in shorts and a t-shirt is far different than an actual game. Stafford has ALL the pressure, he has none.

I think that he is the proverbial training camp arm, and at this point, he's fighting for that opportunity.

He has a big frame and stranger things have happened. If he outplays Stafford, the Lions have got problems...

What is the story with the free agent rookie QB from Michigan? Are they hoping he will turn into their 3rd guy?
