Wins by Cleveland (3-11) and Tampa Bay (2-12) now have the Lions sitting with the No. 2 overall pick in the projected 2010 draft order.

St. Louis lost again and remains No. 1 as the only 1-13 team in the league. But the Lions currently have the tiebreaker edge over Tampa Bay for the No. 2 spot based on a weaker strength of schedule. Prior to the final two games this week, the Lions’ opponents have a combined record of 115-106, while the Bucs’ opponents are 122-98.

Mike–

It comes down to the opponent’s record, which is the measurement of strength of schedule. I would imagine that the Lions might have it nailed, facing the AFC North and NFC North, they have teams with better records than the Bucs have facing the Falcons and Panthers, for example.

I hate to say it, but I hope that the Lions go down meekly and don’t find a way to win that last home game against Chicago.

I am sure that they will lose their 20th straight road game in Frisco next weekend.

Mike, you are right, size is part of the issue. The loss of Jared DeVries was major, because he better fits what they are looking for from the DE position.

That being said, Avril has the ability. Aside from his injuries, he has struggled.

Avril might be desirable to a 3-4 team, except for the fact is that he’d have to lose weight now. He’d be kind of a reverse Turk McBride, in this case.

I just think Cliff’s problem is that Jim and Gunther want bigger meaty lineman. He might actually be decent trade bait?

I would love to see the Lions have a dominating defense just once before I die.
